The hotel and rooms are absolutely fabulous. Very much a 5 star resort. They have some awesome amenities to offer. They set up the beach for us and drove us there. They also do laundry free of cost. The food at the hotel was delicious but pricey. The cocktails also delicious but very pricey. Pool service was 5 star! We will stay here again

We stayed at Pendry Newport Beach for two nights and had a great overall experience. Check-in was smooth and welcoming. Since we booked through Chase Sapphire, we received a room. They also gave our son a check-in toy, which was a thoughtful touch and a great way to start our stay. Our room was ready when we arrived and was very clean. We had requested both a refrigerator and a crib, and I had actually forgotten to follow up on it. The bellman who helped us noticed we had our 15-month-old son with us and immediately contacted the concierge to make sure everything was delivered right away. He truly stood out and went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of. The room itself was spotless. My only minor observation was that the bedroom and bathroom had somewhat different design styles, but it certainly wasn't a big deal. We had breakfast at Set, and while it was good, it wasn't particularly memorable. The service, however, was excellent. The real surprise was the pool dining. the fish tacos were fantastic, the drinks were excellent, and t

From check-in to check-out our stay was fantastic. My wife and I came with a group of friends and we all had a great time. When we got back from the pool our room was set up with a bottle of champagne and fruit which was a great touch. All the servers from the restaurants to the pool bar were extremely polite and attentive. We will be coming back.

In general I expect California hotels (and hotels in Newport/Dana) to be pricey but for the price I pay I expect the absolute best. And you get an ok experience. The Pendry considers itself a 5 star hotel and while it is nice in terms of decor and rooms are pretty spacious and clean I've seen and stayed at much better value hotels. The bathroom actually looks dated and oddly paired with the room set up (like a mismatched Vegas hotel suite). Beds were uncomfortable, way too firm. I couldn't sleep, woke up in the middle of the night and was up til morning. I also found the staff to be inconsistent in friendliness. Most were nice but one desk person just seem like she hated life and her job and just was not pleasant to interact with. I noticed a $15 charge to use the porter to store luggage which is insane.
